Energy from Waste
Fuelled by 12,000-150,000 tonnes of RDF

There is no better time to install small scale EfW.

As an engineering, procurement and construction company Novalux Energy installs renewable heat and power systems for multinational companies and small businesses alike. With over 12 years of experience in the renewables industry and our own installation team, Novalux are able to design and install a range of Energy from Waste (EfW) Systems.

For sites up to 50MWth wanting to generate heat and power by fuelling with Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Novalux recommends a thermal oil boiler alongside an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system. ORC’s harness heat from the boiler, using it for power generation.

Combusting waste requires robust technology. The plants Novalux install are IED compliant, protecting your air quality whilst allowing you to generate heat and power from RDF. Watch a Novalux installation below.

Refuse Derived Fuel

RDF includes biodegradable material as well as plastics. During production glass and metals are removed and the residual material is then shredded. RDF is a resource which can be utilised by your business, attracting a high gate fee and providing a separate income from the energy produced from our EfW plants.

Why do Novalux Install Thermal Oil Technology?

When generating energy from waste there are two main boiler types to choose from, steam or thermal oil. A thermal oil boiler will generate high temperatures at low pressure, which in comparison to a steam boiler results in lower costs. This lower capital outlay gives smaller sites which aren’t in need of steam the ability to benefit from the technology. In addition to this, a thermal oil boiler pairs perfectly with an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) to generate power from heat.

Does your business use steam for processing? Novalux also install steam plants. Click here.

The Financials

With rising energy costs the financials stack up. Many Novalux projects are reaching sub 3 year paybacks. Charge up to a £95 gate fee per tonne for RDF. Fuel with up to 10 tonnes of RDF per hour whilst profiting from the heat and electricity you produce.

Why Novalux?

Novalux currently have the only installed Sugimat thermal oil boiler and Turboden ORC in the UK. With another system currently being installed in North Yorkshire, Novalux’s UK installation team have invaluable experience with this technology. Click here to visit a Novalux installation.

Organic Rankine Cycle

Generating energy from industrial heat processes is simple with the Turboden Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)

Use thermal oil to generate power with the heat produced from a boiler and ORC. Thermal oil allows high temperature at low pressure which reduces cost.

Novalux has installed ORC technology at 20+ sites and with it’s simple operation and remote control, customers are able to generate power whilst reducing the amount of carbon produced by their business and energy costs.

Bespoke Design Tailored to Your Requirements

During your first site visit Novalux will take into consideration the type of waste you have available to use as fuel, the desired electricity generation and the individual circumstances of your project to create a bespoke site design. Whether you need a building for the system or already have a space allocated for the plant, we’ll tailor a system to suit the requirements of your site.
